Considering the expected hike in trade between China and Europe, the largest Polish railway freight transport operator and its partners want to streamline the logistic services on the route. The goal of the talks with Belarusian Railway is to improve cooperation on border crossings between the two countries.
The Polish attendees of the meeting in Terespol and Małaszewicze included the representatives of the PKP CARGO Group, Maciej Libiszewski, President of the Management Board, Jarosław Klasa, member of the Management Board for Operations, Jarosław Tarasiuk, President of the Management Board of the Logistic Centre PKP Cargo in Malaszewicze and Jacek Rutkowski, President of the Management Board of Cargotor, as well as Marek Olkiewicz Vice-President of the Management Board – Director for Operational Affairs of PKP PLK S.A. and directors of the company. The Belarusian delegation was headed by Vladimir Morozov, Head of the Belarusian Railway.
The parties discussed, among others, issues related to the ongoing goods exchange between Poland Belarus, development of border infrastructure, increase of transshipment capacity, and improvement of transport of dangerous goods and containers. Additionally, the participants also talked about mutual cooperation with relation to the modernization and maintenance works conducted by PKP PLK on the 1520 mm line on the section between Terespol and Kobylany.
“Our cooperation with partners from Belarus has been proper for many years. Operational contacts are maintained within this regard on the level of central offices of both companies, and between the companies’ facilities and departments of Belarus’s railways in Brześć and Baranowicze. This is how we are trying to solve any diagnosed problems and together with PKP PLK increase the quality of servicing shipments between the two railways 1520 and 1435 mm. The increased shipment volume caused by the trade exchange between China and Europe poses new challenges for us. I am sure that together with our partners from Belarus we will be able to successfully fulfill our increasing duties,” said Maciej Libiszewski PKP CARGO’s President of the Management Board.
